Follistatin, also referred to as activin-binding protein, is a protein encoded by the FST gene in humans.

This autocrine glycoprotein is found in almost all tissues of higher organisms. Initially extracted from follicular fluid, it was recognized as a protein fraction that inhibited the secretion of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) from the anterior pituitary, earning the name FSH-suppressing protein (FSP). Its main role has since been established as the binding and neutralization agent for members of the TGF superfamily, primarily focusing on activin, a paracrine hormone (TGF member) that stimulates FSH secretion in the anterior pituitary.
